2010 GLOBAL GAME JAM™ ENDS WITH 929 GAMES CREATED IN JUST 48 HOURS
4,333 People Participated in 39 Countries Around the World
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – February 2, 2010 – The Global Game Jam™ (GGJ) an IGDA event, today announced that the 2010 Global Game Jam has ended. The result is 4,333 developers spent 48 hours straight building games based on the theme “Deception”. The weekend yielded a record-setting 929 games in the GGJ’s second year, a huge increase from the inaugural year’s numbers of 1650 participants and 360 games.
“2010 showed that the GGJ has grown substantially in just a year’s time and we’re extremely proud of the teams that built these 929 games in such a short time frame,” said Susan Gold, founder of the Global Game Jam. “The 48 hours goes by very fast and you have to take risks in order to make a game that quickly. The personal growth that this experience gives to participants is something that we hope shapes their views and gives them the ability to see things from different perspectives as collaboration leads to great ideas coming to life.”
Some of the top games created at this year’s GGJ include:
Resonance - A game that uses music as the key ingredient for solving puzzles and will challenge you to think beyond the obvious. A game that is not all that it seems to be. Puzzle your way through the wonderful ambiance of Resonance. http://globalgamejam.org/2010/resonance

Game Jams foster innovation and experimentation. If you have ever wanted to make a game, be a part of a team, or go outside of your usual working method, then a game jam is for you. It’s all about making games and in the GGJ you’re part of a global experiment in creativity. A game jam is not for the faint of heart though. It’s two days of hard work, experimentation, little sleep, collaboration, cramped quarters, new friends, great idea, laughs, technical issues and the time of your life.
Everyone is given similar constraints and rules to make their games, it is amazing how different and culturally diverse the games will be. The Nordic Game Jam has honored GGJ with being the flagship Game Jam. The goal is to provide a vehicle for professional developers, students and hobbyist to come together and have an incredible experience in collaboration and inventiveness. The GGJ works perfectly into the mission of the International Game Developers Association, “Connecting members with their peers & promoting professional development.” A Game Jam is not a competition, it is unique "idea space" where sometimes things work and sometimes they don't.
