Sibblingz Announces Spaceport: A Cloud-Based Social Gaming Platform Built To Launch Your Game on One Billion HTML5 SmartPhones

BURLINGAME, Calif. April 27, 2011 - Multi-device social gaming platform provider, Sibblingz, announced today version 2.0 of its cloud based social gaming platform, code-named Spaceport. This latest innovation enables game developers to build a game once, using Javascript, and have it play across Facebook, the web and every major global smartphone operating system in the world today, with a native game-like experience and super-fast performance in a downloadable application.

The Spaceport platform will roll out next month with Sibblingz's own synchronous role-playing game, MiniQuest which demonstrates the use of the technology at 30 frames per second across all major smartphones in the world. MiniQuest, which has been developed once in Javascript/HTML5, will be available in Apple, Nokia and Android app stores and playable on 1 billion smart phones: a larger number of potential players of a game then Facebook offers.

Sibblingz is part of the YouWeb family, a social and mobile company incubator that created global brands such as OpenFeint and CrowdStar. Spaceport was developed in order to easily create games that run as a hybrid HTML5 – native app solution. The code for the game is written once, in a simple scripting language, then can run on any device. Spaceport enables games to run across multiple devices as efficiently as a native app.

Over the past year, Sibblingz's first generation multi-device gaming platform, codenamed Jetpack, powered two of the top Facebook games, Happy Island and It Girl by CrowdStar. Sibblingz's game engine enabled both titles to expand from being Facebook PC games to mobile titles on both iOS and Android. Sibblingz's newest gaming engine update, Spaceport, goes beyond anything in the market by enabling developers to expand even further to all major mobile platforms that support OpenGL and Javascript. Unlike Jetpack, Sibblingz plans to open up licensing of Spaceport to multiple strategic development partners.

“Spaceport is a revolutionary development in mobile game development,” says Sibblingz founder, Ben Savage. “Most developers have been told they have to wait a year or so for WebGL to build an HTML5 application with the performance of native applications. We offer the same capability to the world now, on every smartphone OS in the world.”

Spaceport also radically improves the updating process for developers. With Spaceport, developers just need to revise the JavaScript code for their game in the HTML page once. After doing so, they will see immediate updates take place in their game across every device it’s running on, without any updated required to app stores.

The issue of servers is also addressed through Spaceport. Since all social games require a server and a client, mobile developers need understand the complicated process of setting up, running, and scaling servers. Spaceport runs a server-side solution in the cloud, so developers only need to make one language, for the client and the server. This accelerates game development and reduces hiring requirements for developers.
