MocoSpace Launches New HTML5 Mobile Game True Night, Discovers Guys Dig Vampires Too
‘True Night’ quickly becomes a top five game on platform
BOSTON – April 5, 2012 – Today MocoSpace, the largest HTML5 mobile gaming community in North America, is announcing the launch of an exciting new game called True Night. Developed by New Game Town, True Night turns gamers into vampires.
In just two weeks since its launch, True Night has rocketed to become the fourth most-played game on MocoSpace. Interestingly, half of all players are male, and the vast majority of all players are over 17 years old – showing that vampires aren’t just a teenage girl phenomena.
True Night has drawn a nearly even split of male/female players, with 51 percent female and 49 percent male. The majority of gamers are in the 18-24 year old demographic, not 13-17 year olds, as one might expect. In fact, 13-17 year olds account for only 10 percent of game play. The ranking of True Night play by age is:
- 31 percent: 18-24 years old
- 25 percent: 25 – 35 years old
- 21 percent: Over 36 years old
- 13 percent: 31- 35 years old
- 10 percent: 13-17 years old
This data supports a trend that Goodreads saw with the Twilight book series; they reported that “as many 28, 29, and 30-year-olds read the book as 15, 16, and 17-year-olds.”
In True Night, a player starts off as a newly converted vampire and can choose a character. Players must quickly learn how to survive in the vampire world. Survival means creating their own clan of friends, going on quests, fighting other vampires, collecting ancient vampire artifacts and learning to live in the human world by acquiring strength.
"We developed True Night with MocoSpace's young audience in mind and thought that the theme would bring in all kinds of players - but we had no idea it would grow such a large fan base so quickly," said Jeremy Wang, CTO of New Game Town.
The launch of True Night brings the total number of HTML5 mobile game on the MocoSpace platform to 33. It is the third game developed by New Game Town for MocoSpace.
"We are thrilled to be working with New Game Town, because their games are consistently engaging, with wonderful graphics and stories," said MocoSpace CEO Justin Siegel. “There are great opportunities for monetization within games like this, and the potential for brands to get in on the action with in-game product placement.”
